Comfort Cases is a global nonprofit organization focused on providing comfort, personal care items, and duffle bags to youth entering North Carolina’s foster care system with the goal of eliminating the common occurrence of these youth carrying their belongings in trash bags from placement to placement.
Through this special program, all social service agencies within the state can place an order to receive FREE Comfort Cases® backpacks and Comfort XL Duffle Bags. This latest milestone is the culmination of a longstanding partnership between Comfort Cases and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (Blue Cross NC) to ensure dignity and support for children in foster care… our most vulnerable youth. We are thrilled to work with Blue Cross NC’s Healthy Blue Care Together plan on this initiative.
All social service agencies within the state of North Carolina can place an order for their donation of Comfort Cases® and Comfort XL’s.
Comfort Cases are backpacks filled with brand-new items, including pajamas, socks, a blanket, a stuffed animal, a hygiene kit, a dental kit, and other age-appropriate supplies. Each Comfort Case is meant to provide comfort and the essentials for a child’s first few nights in foster care, from newborns to teens. The Comfort XL is a 32-inch duffel bag that folds up to easily fit in a backpack or on an office shelf, in a desk drawer, or in the trunk of a car. Our goal is for every social worker and police officer in North Carolina to have a supply of Comfort XL duffel bags to give to children when they are removed from their homes.
The partnership between North Carolina and Comfort Cases is joining a movement in the nation’s efforts to support children in the foster care system. Building on the initiative that began in Georgia, it showcases the power of collective action and sets an inspiring precedent for other states to follow.

The team hosted Packing Parties across the state of North Carolina, offering a hands-on experience of packing Comfort Cases® at each location! Agency Partners participated and were the beneficiaries of the assembled backpacks.
