ROCKVILLE, MD – Golden Globe-winning actor, musician, and philanthropist Kevin Bacon has partnered with Comfort Cases to support kids entering the foster care system. Bacon’s nonprofit organization SixDegrees.org and Comfort Cases will host a donation drive between Thursday, July 12, and Saturday, July 21, to collect supplies for Comfort Cases. One donor will be selected to attend a meet and greet with Kevin Bacon at an upcoming performance of the Bacon Brothers band.
Founded in 2013, Comfort Cases’ mission is to inspire communities to bring dignity and hope to youth in foster care. The charity provides kids in foster care with a brand new backpack and duffel bag to replace the trash bag that so many are asked to pack in as they enter the system. Each Case is packed with brand new items such as pajamas, a blanket, a stuffed animal, toiletries, books, and other essentials.
For this donation drive, Comfort Cases is soliciting donations of new, unused backpacks, blankets (up to 50” x 60”), and pajamas (sizes newborn to adult 3XL). Donations will be accepted at the Comfort Cases National Center located at 15825 Shady Grove Road, Suite 60 in Rockville, Maryland, Monday through Friday between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m.; Thursday, July 19, from 5 to 8 p.m.; and Saturday, July 21 between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
The donor to attend the meet and greet with Kevin Bacon will be selected and notified on the evening of Saturday, July 21 and the meet and greet will occur on Sunday, July 22.
The Bacon Brothers will be performing at The Birchmere in Alexandria, Virginia on the evenings of Friday, July 20; Saturday, July 21; and Sunday, July 22. Tickets are available by going to Birchmere.com.
About Comfort Cases
Comfort Cases is a nationally recognized 501(c)(3) charity based in Rockville, Md. Rob and Reece Scheer established the charity in October 2013 on a mission to inspire communities to bring dignity and hope to youth entering the foster care system. With the initial hope of helping hundreds of youth in the Washington, D.C. metro area, Comfort Cases has risen to national prominence following the release of a feature video produced by viral media website Upworthy. The video, which has been viewed more than 100 million times, has led to appearances on The Ellen Show and the Today Show, while bringing national attention to issues facing children entering the foster care system.
To date, the charity has distributed more than 35,000 Cases to children in 39 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. Comfort Cases continues to expand its reach with a goal of providing Cases to youth in foster care in all 50 states.
Over the past two decades, Golden Globe-winning actor, musician, and philanthropist Kevin Bacon’s wide-reaching professional network has inspired a game that connects him to anyone in the Hollywood film industry in six degrees or less. Due to its popularity, Kevin decided to turned the idea on its head and founded the nonprofit SixDegrees.org to connect musicians, athletes, actors, and other influencers to local charities and events to rally support by making them exciting and accessible through leveraging social media, video spots, and live appearances.
Established officially in 2007, Kevin launched SixDegrees at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, UT. In the beginning, the nonprofit partnered with Institutions like University of Maryland and Stanford University to launch projects that promoted giving and fundraising for a variety of causes. Over the last two years the organization refocused and has coordinated countless drop- ins and surprise pop-ups to amplify causes, community organizations, and campaigns around the country. SixDegrees makes it easy for Kevin Bacon and other celebrities to give a small amount of their time to raise awareness by lending their celebrity influence to draw attention to countless unsung heroes around the world, and continues to gain involvement from a growing list of stars.
