Episode 46: ‘From Place to Place’ Producer Matt Anderson
Matt Anderson is the Vice President of Programs and Business Development for the Children’s Home Society of North Carolina. Matt talks about what inspired him to become a social worker and get involved in the child welfare system. He is also the producer of the award-winning documentary From Place to Place, a film that led to the opportunity to speak with representatives on Capitol Hill. Matt also talks about The Children’s Home Society of North Carolina and how they’ve evolved over their 120 year history.

Matt Anderson is a social worker who believes in the power of listening and storytelling to promote family as the foundation for healthy children and strong communities. Matt began his career in Missoula, Montana working with teenagers, providing substance use prevention and early intervention services. Matt earned his Masters of Social Work at the University of Montana and has focused his career on youth engagement, child welfare, public policy, and using media as a catalyst for change.
Matt joined Children’s Home Society of North Carolina in 2011 and currently serves as the Vice President of Programs and Business Development. Matt’s responsibilities include leading the Foster Care to Permanency program, governmental affairs, and helping to advance the strategic vision of the organization. Matt is always focused on improving services to children and families and advancing the impact of Children’s Home Society.
Matt is currently a member of National Association of Social Workers NC Chapter’s PACE committee, Co- Chair of Benchmarks’ FAR committee, and sits on the Board of Directors for Haiti Friends.
Prior to joining Children’s Home Society, Matt was the co-owner of Porch Productions and produced the feature documentary From Place to Place, which is about America’s foster care system told through the experiences of three young adults who aged out of the system. From Place to Place won the National Association of Social Workers 2012 Media Award and has screened in all 50 states and Canada.
Matt is originally from Pittsburgh, PA where most of his family still lives, calls home, and roots for the Steelers. Matt’s family is his greatest source of support and inspiration, and why he is committed to this work.
