In this episode, Rob and Dana talk to Jamerika Haynes about her experience in foster care and how it shaped her into becoming an advocate for children in the system. She is a journalist and the reigning Ms. Evergreen State 2020, and she uses her platforms to educate others about the challenges facing children in foster care. Listen as they discuss poverty and racial bias in the child welfare system and why it is important to support families in order to prevent children from being removed.

Jamerika has more than ten years of experience as a journalist and advocate for foster care children. Growing up as a foster child, she was determined to live a different life than the one she experienced. She graduated with a B.A. in Communication from the Edward. R. Murrow College of Communication at Washington State University. She is currently the reigning titleholder Ms. Evergreen State 2020 through the USA Ambassador (USAA) Pageant. Her platform is ‘A Chance to Succeed: Empowering Youth in Foster Care.’ 

She owns and operates Clever Jam Communications, a consulting firm offering strategic communications guidance, motivational speaking and facilitation to those working in child welfare. Jamerika travels the nation as a  keynote speaker while working with others to improve child welfare.
