Coats for Comfort: Donation Drive hosted by CNN’s Laura Coates

Laura Coates of CNN

Join Laura Coates in “Coats of Comfort” from November 1st through November 23rd, in honor of National Adoption Awareness Month. Help us provide warmth and support to children in foster care by donating new or gently used coats. Your generous contributions will be delivered just in time for the holidays, offering comfort and care to those who need it most. Let’s come together to make a difference this season!

When children are entering the foster care system, they are provided a trash bag and told to grab all their treasured belongings. When a child’s possessions are thrown into a trash bag, they are not receiving a positive message about their worth and value as members of the community. Every child deserves to feel a sense of dignity and hope.  Every child deserves a Comfort Case that includes a blanket, a stuffed animal, toiletries and more!

We will have local drop-off locations throughout Virginia, Maryland, and DC (full list provided below). You can also donate from around the world using our online donation list!

National Adoption Awareness Month is observed every November to raise awareness about the thousands of children in foster care awaiting permanent families. This month is dedicated to educating communities, encouraging adoption, and supporting adoptive families. It’s a time to recognize the importance of every child’s right to a loving, stable home and to honor the selfless commitment of those who open their hearts and homes through adoption.

Courts and organizations in more than 400 communities across the country have opened their doors on the Saturday before Thanksgiving (November 23) to finalize and celebrate adoptions from foster care. National Adoption Day has recognized more than 85,000 children moving from foster care to a permanent family.

Help us reach our goal! We’re striving to collect 300 coats for children in foster care – every coat makes a difference!

We’re thrilled to share some exciting news! As of November 22, 2024, we have exceeded our goal thanks to the incredible support of our community and the generous donation of 300 coats from Elevance Health.

Together, we’ve ensured that over 1000 children will feel the warmth of a cozy coat and a caring community this winter. Thank you for helping us give these children the gift of warmth and love! 💙💛
