Comfort Cases Awarded $10,000 Grant from TowerCares Foundation

TowerCares Foundation Grant

The TowerCares Foundation, a 501 (c)(3) organization that supports children in need, as well as the brave men and women who protect our freedom and their families so that they all may have a brighter future, announced that a grant of $10,000 has been awarded to Comfort Cases, an international non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization that promotes hope and dignity to youth in foster care.

The funds from the grant will be used to support the distribution of 770 Comfort XL duffle bags to children in foster care in the Baltimore and Washington, DC areas.

“The TowerCares Foundation was honored to provide a grant to Comfort Cases to support their mission of bringing dignity and hope to children in foster care,” states Mary-Brigid McCauley, Marketing Programs & Community Relations Specialist for Tower Federal Credit Union. “Comfort Cases is a favorite charity of our employees, who are ardent supporters of TowerCares. We are proud to support Comfort Cases and the tremendous work they are doing to provide comfort and caring to children in need.”

Approximately 700 children enter foster care daily in the U.S. Comfort Cases aims to eliminate the demoralizing practice of placing children in foster homes with their belongings in trash bags. Carrying belongings in a bag meant for trash has a profound negative effect on self-esteem.

“Thank you so much to the TowerCares Foundation for this grant. It enables us to help so many youth in need right here in the DC Metro and Baltimore area,” states Rob Scheer, founder and CEO of Comfort Cases. “We love that so many employees from Tower Federal Credit Union have packed our Comfort Cases® so they can see the immediate impact their efforts have on our youth.”

Scheer continues, “We encourage everyone to become a #BagBuster to stop this horrendous practice of giving kids entering foster care trash bags to carry their belongings. Would you give your child a trash bag? No. So why treat these kids any differently? They are all part of our community, so together and through the help of organizations like the TowerCares Foundation, we can finally put an end to this practice and treat our youth with the respect they deserve.”
